water and sanitation infrastructure

Today, 1 June 2026, the CHDM Executive, led by Executive Mayor Cllr Lusanda Sizani, conducted a monitoring visit to water and sanitation infrastructure in Middelburg and Nxuba. The delegation visited Middelburg in the morning, where a briefing was held with CHDM staff members to discuss water supply challenges for improved service provision. The delegation proceeded to the Middelburg Water Treatment Works, where the status of water sources was presented, with plans to drill additional boreholes to increase the yield to the plant as one of the solutions.
In Nxuba, the delegation inspected repair work on a major water storage reservoir at the Cradock Water Treatment Plant. The Executive Mayor emphasized the need for urgent repairs to the storage tank to reduce water losses, ensuring a reliable water supply to communities.
He further apologised to ratepayers, businesses, and households for the inconvenience caused, stating that the repair work to address the leak was necessary to ensure an adequate supply of water to Nxuba residents.
