UPDATE: KOMANI WATER SUPPLY

UPDATE: KOMANI WATER SUPPLY | Komani and surrounding areas continue to experience drastic water shortage as Bonkolo dam has declined and is below abstraction point, whilst Water down dam solely supplies Whittlesea / Komani and is inadequate due to demand.
Repairs to Xonxa pump station are at an advanced stage to be ready to effect pumping from Xonxa dam by March.
The district municipality has also urgently activated processes to explore ground water sources (boreholes) that will augment raw water inflow into the Berry holding source, whilst engagements with relevant stakeholders have also commenced to do an assessment of Bonkolo dam.
Additional 10 water carts have been sourced to ensure consistent supply to distressed areas.

Provincial Safer Festive Season 2024 Lunch

Provincial Safer Festive Season 2024 Lunch is still underway in Komani, Enoch Mgijima LM under Chris Hani District Municipality. This launch is aimed at ensuring the state of readiness for all security and community safety clusters for festive season. All the role players are activated in ensuring the safety of the Eastern Cape Province people including visitors and tourists during the 2024 fistive season.

WATER PROJECT HANDOVER – Dr AB Xuma

WATER PROJECT HANDOVER | CHDM Executive Mayor, Cllr Lusanda Sizani handed over Eluhewini Water Scheme to the villages of Nkwenkwa, Qolweni, and KoMkhulu in Ward 5, Dr AB Xuma LM. The benefits 705 households and it comprises a construction of new borehole pump station; 4,8km pipeline; 51 standpipes; 3 break pressure tanks and 24 valve chambers with associated fittings. Speaking during the handover, Dr AB Xuma LM Mayor, Cllr Siyabulela Zangqa pleaded with the community to stand against vandalism of municipal infrastructure.

CHDM and CHDA in a briefing session

CHDM and CHDA in a briefing session with the Head of Trade and Investment in Burundi Embassy, Mr Robert Mugalula, preparing for an official state visit of the Ambassador of Burundi to CHDM planned for next month.
Through this visit, delegation is amongst others looking to enhance partnership and promote local government investment and links on an exchange programe.

Newly established mechanical and electrical workshop in Komani

CHDM Executive Mayor, Cllr Lusanda Sizani visited the newly established mechanical and electrical workshop in Komani. The workshop is an in-house repair facility servicing lister engines, generators, including emergency repairs and refurbishments of pumps with a focus on bearings and seal replacement.
This will help to reduce costs, improve efficiency and turn around times for improved performance of water and sanitation services infrastructure across the district.
The workshop which forms part of the Electrical and Mechanical Unit in Komani comprises a team leader, four technicians and six students from Ikhala TVET COLLEGE Engineering Department. The students joined CHDM as in service trainees and four are now on contract employment.
