Small Towns Revitalisation Programme

Today, CHDM handed over paving material to Inxuba Yethemba Local Municipality as part of its Small Towns Revitalisation Programme.
The material, which will be used for the paving of streets in LusakaTownship (Old Location)in Middelberg, consists of interlocking pavers, crusher dust, cement, barrier kerbs, concrete stones and sand; with equipment like wheelbarrows, picks/spades and safety wear.
The paving project will be labour intensive, affording local people the much needed job opportunities through the Expanded Public Works Program.
Inxuba Yethemba LM, will assume the management responsibility for the project.
CHDM Small Towns Revitalisation Programme is an intervention aiming at improving small towns for local economic development to thrive.

The Transport and Community Safety, MEC Xolile Nqatha received plant machinery in Komani earlier today comprising 11 brand new graders. The machinery will be used to fix road infrastructure network the department is confronted with in different parts of the province.
CHDM Executive Mayor, Cllr Lusanda Sizani, and Enoch Mgijima political leadeship joined the MEC and welcomed the move which will greatly assist in dealing with state of roads across the district.

Poverty alleviation inputs

Thirty six (36) beneficiaries from all six local municipalities within CHDM received poverty alleviation inputs from the district municipality today.
A total of 864 bags of pig feed was handed over to small scale farmers with 180 piglets already procured for delivery to various points in all LMs.

SPRING WATER HANDOVER

SPRING WATER HANDOVER | The Department of Rural Development & Agrarian Reform (DRDAR) working with Chris Hani District Municipality (CHDM) is currently handing over Spring Water Scheme in KuManzana, Engcobo -Dr AB Xuma Local Municipality.
Speaking during the handover, CHDM Executive Mayor, Cllr Lusanda Sizani and MEC for DRDAR, Hon. Nonkqubela Pieters told the community that the project benefits over 200 households. In the construction stage of the scheme, 100% of local labour was utilised and the community was encouraged to protect this infrastructure from vandalism and theft. This water scheme is primarily utilised for human consumption, clinics, schools and watering/ irrigation of household gardens. The community is also given the agricultural inputs such as feed, wheelbarrows, seedlings and water pipes for household gardening.

AGRICULTURAL STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT

In efforts to improve local economic development and agriculture. CHDM Executive Mayor, Cllr Lusanda Sizani held a meeting in with farmers in Komani to establish Chris Hani District Agricultural Forum. The structure will coordinate and facilitate agricultural development programmes in the district and will be chaired by the district municipality executive mayor. Also the forum will have technical team composed of representatives from relevant institutions.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Chris Hani District Municipality and Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality led by Executive Mayor, Cllr Lusanda Sizani and Cllr Madoda Papiyana held an engagement with Ward 31 community in Midford. This is part of municipal follow up on service delivery challenges facing the ward-the services include water, sanitation,roads, network and electricity. Both municipalities in agreement with the community provided long and short term solutions to the challenges.

CHDM Executive Mayor Cllr Lusanda Sizani currently leading engagements with Sakhisizwe and Emalahleni Local Municipality to ensure water and sanitation services are improved.

Introducing the agent and contractors to Councillors of Ward 3, Ward 7, and Ward 17 at Emalahlenilm LM

3 Wards, (Ward 3, Ward 7, and Ward 17) of Emalahleni Local Municipality are set to benefit from 379 Ventilated Improved Pit Latrine structures to be constructed by CHDM. Chris Hani agent HSCC/ Sokhani JV Consultant will monitor the works from 10 local SMMEs who have been appointed to construct 39 units each over a duration of one month.

Introducing the agent and contractors to Councillors of Ward 3, Ward 7, and Ward 17 at Emalahlenilm.ec Council Chambers today, CHDM Deputy Executive Mayor, Cllr Noncedo September urged suppliers to deliver quality services to Chris Hani community members to uphold and protect the reputation of government.

155 households in Maqhubela, 135 in Fani and 89 households in Ntsinga village will have new VIP toilets by the end of this year.

Five villages in Intsika Yethu LM namely; Khuze-lamthole, Qwele, Upper Makhwababa, Mahlubi and Sigangeni are to benefit in 351 ablution structures that will be constructed this month until December 2023. CHDM Deputy Executive Mayor, Cllr Noncedo September is currently handing over the contractor to Intsika Yethu Municipality that will facilitate further processes including community engagement and employment opportunities expected in this project.
