CHDM MEETS WITH RATEPAYERS AND BUSINESS REPRESENTATIVES ON WATER SERVICES
Chris Hani DM Mayoral Committee, led by Executive Mayor Councilor Kholiswa Vimbayo, met ratepayers and business representatives today 30 October 2018. Key issues of discussion related to water service provision
Addressing the meeting, Executive Mayor Vimbayo appreciated the move by the ratepayers and business representatives to approach the district municipality when they have issues of discontent with regards to water service delivery in and around Komani. She further acknowledged that the challenges regarding water services have impacted negatively on the image of the institution and severed the trust and confidence between the municipality, ratepayers and businesses.
Issues that emerged from the stakeholders include dissatisfaction with regards to the progress of Xonxa Dam Transfer Project, understanding of current intervention regarding water outages and inconsistency in sharing of information.
The Xonxa project is projected to be complete by end of November and a follow up meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 6 November 2018.
With regards to water outages, additional trucks for water carting will be provided to distressed areas as currently our water storage facilities are under stress due to high demand, necessitating strict water restrictions which will be enforced henceforth.
The municipality will upscale communication and awareness efforts to our communities and all stakeholders regarding water restrictions.
We urge community to use water sparingly so that we can all benefit from this precious resource.
