CHRIS HANI DM RAINFALL
Chris Hani District Municipality (CHDM) welcomes the rainfall that we are currently receiving as it has made a difference, especially in our underground water sources which are critical for borehole water resourcing. A number of schemes dependent on underground water have been dysfunctional mostly due to low yield.
A significant increase in dam levels across the district has been recorded whilst vital sources such as Water down dam still reflects a decline as it stands at 49.3% compared to 50.4% last week, Bonkolo Dam still lingering below the measuring device. The levels per local municipal areas are :Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality : Waterdown dam – 49.3%; Bonkolo dam – 9%; Paradise dam – 90%; Carnarvon estate – 85%. Emalahleni : Machubeni dam- 96.6% ; Xonxa dam – 1002.5% ; Doornriver dam – 78.1%; Anderson dam -65%. Intsika Yethu : Ncora dam -99.8%; Lubisi dam – 54.3 %; Tsojana dam – 99.4%. Sakhisizwe : Thompson dam- 60%
Whilst we welcome the rains, we hasten to caution communities and motorists to be mindful of the effects the rain and report any incidents to local councilors or call our Customer Care line 0800100100.
