The funeral of the late Cllr Nyameka Goniwe, the widow of Mathew Goniwe who was part of the Cradock Four anti-apartheid struggle stalwarts is scheduled to take place next week at her family home in Cradock, following a recent announcement by the family.
The former Mayoral Committee Member of the Chris Hani District Municipality, former Mayor and Speaker of Inxuba Yethemba Local Municipality will be laid to rest on Wednesday, 09th September 2020. Her untimely departure has left a huge void in the Chris Hani community and beyond due to her role and immense contribution in the fulfillment of the country’s developmental agenda as she directed her efforts towards the betterment of others.
Cllr Goniwe, was unshaken yet humble as she fought a good fight and did not surrender on her true ideals for the emancipation of women. She has also worked with Social Change Assistance Trust and Khulumani Support Group in pursuit of human rights and social justice. She suffered a sustained harassment at the hands of the apartheid security police that resulted in the brutal assassination of her late husband Mathew Goniwe 35 years ago and has relentlessly sort to find justice for the victims of the apartheid government.
