World Environment Day programme
The Municipality, in partnership with Chris Hani District Municipality (CHDM), relevant government departments and key stakeholders, is currently hosting a World Environment Day programme at Thembeni Primary School under this year’s global theme: “Beat Plastic Pollution.”
The day’s activities included engaging environmental waste management recitals by local learners. The day also included Services on Wheels, bringing essential municipal and government services directly to the people.
In his address, Hon Mayor Cllr Siyabulela Zangqa emphasized the importance of collective responsibility when it comes to environmental waste management stating: “Protecting our environment is not the work of government alone, it is a shared responsibility. Each of us has a role to play in building a sustainable future.”
The programme calls for ongoing education and action to combat plastic pollution at every level, from classrooms to communities.
