Chris Hani District Municipality, in collaboration with Inxuba Yethemba Municipality, hosted the National Arbor Day celebration, led by the MMC for Health and Community Services, Councilor Malibongwe Fatyela, today at Matthew Goniwe High School, in Cradock. Local schools took to the stage, presenting what their schools are doing in support of the day under the theme: “My tree, my oxygen, plant yours today!
Arbor Month is celebrated to encourage the planting and care of trees, improving the environment and communities by promoting awareness of the vital importance of trees for ecological health, resources, and aesthetic beauty.

Oversight visit to service delivery sites

Today, the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) led by Acting Chairperson Cllr Nkosinathi Biko , conducted oversight visit to service delivery sites – Rathwick Sewer Pump Station and Sewer Bulk Main to Enkululekweni Sewer Pump Station.
In attendance were the members of the committee, Cllr Mcebisi Limba and Cllr Humphrey Nobhongoza and the CHDM Technical team.
The team assessed Phase 4 of the Waste Water Reticulation project focusing on progress, challenges, and recommendations that will ensure effective service delivery.

Awareness campaign at Van Der Merwe Primary School in Middleburg

CHDM Customer Care and water coordinators, in collaboration with other stakeholders which include government departments is conducting an awareness campaign at Van Der Merwe Primary School in Middleburg. The campaign aims at sharing information with learners and educators on :
* dangers of throwing objects to the mainline
* Water conservation and demand
* Payment of rates
* Complaints reporting systems
* Dangers of vandalising municipal infrastructure
* Smart meter project
* Water tariffs awareness
Awareness campaigns are ongoing throughout the district targeting various categories of communities.

Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature held a Parliament for Senior Citizens District Workshop at Chris Hani District

Eastern Cape Provincial Legisleture held a Parliament for Senior Citizens District Workshop at Chris Hani District Municipal Council Cambers at Bells Road.
The session focused on various thematic areas:
– Gender based violence on older persons,
– Access to health, and
– Managing financial well-being beyond retirement.
The Department of Social Development and Department of Community Safety presented these matters further by giving a depth explanation on these areas and further discussions by present elders was held where they also voiced out their challenges. This will help assist community members on how to deal with these issues in their communities.

Handing over fully equipped boreholes in Komani

Gift of the Givers in collaboration with CHDM and Enoch Mgijima LM officially handed over fully equipped boreholes in Komani as a short-term solution to address water challenges. The boreholes were installed in four schools namely: Nkwanca High School; Luvuyo Lerumo High School, Sixishe High School and Edlelweni Primary School. These schools were identified as urgent sites where the community will also have access to water.

Serving Our Communities Better

CHDM MMC, Cllr Thembisile Bobo, is currently introducing contractors for the Refurbishment of Elliot/Khowa Water Treatment Works Sakhisizwe Local Municipality, and Cacadu Oxidation Ponds at Emalahlenilm.ec. Similarly, the Deputy Executive Mayor, Cllr Noncedo September-Caba, introduced a contractor for the Tsojana 2nd Phase Refurbishment project in Intsika Yethu Municipality. These projects will improve the quality of water and sanitation services in these communities. These projects will also create temporary job opportunities for the local people.

Water and sanitation infrastructure refurbishment projects

#ServingOurCommunitiesBetter | Tomorrow, CHDM Executive Mayor, Cllr Lusanda Sizani will lead the introduction of contractors for water and sanitation infrastructure refurbishment projects to our communities ( Emalahleni LM, Inxuba Yethemba LM, Sakhisizwe LM and Intsika Yethu LM). The refurbishments are aimed at improving functionality of infrastructure for improved delivery of services
