Fund Resilience Not Disasters

Ngonyama Senior Primary School in Ward 8 of Emalahleni Local Municipality was honoured to receive a 1800-litre water tank, wheelie bins, 20 fruit trees, agricultural implements, fire extinguishers, wheelbarrows, fertilizers and backpacks for all school learners, a lasting legacy from Chris Hani District Municipality (CHDM).
The handover took place today, 14 October 2025, at this rural school as part of the International Day for Disaster Reduction commemoration, held under the theme: “Fund resilience, not disasters.”
This year, IDDR observes the critical role of prevention, preparedness, and inclusive governance in disaster risk reduction. It is a powerful call to move beyond reactive responses and embrace a proactive approach rooted in science, equity, local knowledge, and long-term planning.
Partners who supported and aligned with this year’s theme include the Provincial Disaster Management Centre under COGTA, Old Mutual Foundation, Green Development Foundation, Al-Imdaad Foundation, Emalahlenilm.ec and Intsika Yethu Municipality – Thank you for your support🙏.
