Community Engagement

Information Sharing and Service Delivery Day held at Ezibeleni, Ward 7 in Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality (EMLM) facilitated by CHDM to bring services and information to the people.
This is a government-business approach aimed at helping ordinary residents access services and information with ease. Stakeholders present included Social Development, Home Affairs, IEC, Correctional Services, Department of Health, Retail Shops and Funeral Parlours operating within the district.

Chris Hani Regional Environmental Awards

#ChrisHaniRegionalEnvironmentalAwards I Day 2 is underway at the Whittlesea Multi-Purpose Centre!
Fourteen high schools are battling it out for the R23,000 top prize, presenting innovative and forward-looking pitches to adjudicators under the theme: “Think Global, Act Local: South Africa’s Response to the Paris Agreement.”
Adjudicators have praised the schools for their research, creativity, and commitment to the environment. Meanwhile, the Acting Executive Mayor, Cllr Malibongwe Fatyela, commended teachers for guiding learners towards environmental excellence since the inception of the Regional Environmental Awards.

Youth And Women In Business

YouthAndWomenInBusiness | Masterclass (Workshop) on Business Sectorial Parliament is underway in Chris Hani District Municipality.
The session focused on three area: Township-rural and women businesses; access to finance & corruption impact on small businesses and Agriculture.
This is ensure to ensure effectiveness and functionality of policies & strategies implemented for these pragrammes.

DMAFO

District Mayors Forum (DMAFO), led by CHDM Executive Mayor, Cllr Lusanda Sizani, is currently in session. The Forum is a platform for Mayors to collaborate, discuss and coordinate efforts on various issues related to local governance and service delivery.
Amongst others, the forum also interrogates a report from the Technical Intergovernmental Forum, led by the district Municipal Manager, where various stakeholders participate.
In attendance are local Mayors and Executive Mayors – Mayor Ponoshe from Sakhisizwe Local Municipality ; Executive Mayor Zonke from Inxuba Yethemba Municipality , Mayor Mdleleni from Intsika Yethu Municipality ; Mayor Koni from Emalahlenilm.ec , Municipal Managers from various local municipalities and relavant stakeholders.
In his opening remarks, Executive Mayor Sizani highlighted a need to strengthen and accelerate delivery of service to the community of the district – and this is possible through collaborations and partnerships. He further made a call for all partners to join hands in the fight against the scourge of violence against women and children.
The meeting is still in session.

Regional Environmental Awards

Today marked the first day of the Regional Environmental Awards at the Whittlesea Multi-Purpose Centre, coordinated by DEDEAT in partnership with Chris Hani District Municipality.
This annual competition challenges primary and high schools to tackle two environmental themes for a chance to secure a spot in the Top 5.
Chris Hani DM has committed R200,000 to inspire participation and deepen environmental impact in rural schools. It further allocated a R5,000 voucher for prescribed school support material to the 5th-place winners (primary and high school), courtesy of the Executive Mayor’s Award.
This is conducted to nurture environmental ambassadors from a young age and ensure our district remains protected, sustainable, and compliant.

State of service delivery in the district

In session | Executive Mayor, Cllr Lusanda Sizani engages with MMCs responsible for various portfolios, the Deputy Executive Mayor, Cllr Noncedo September-Caba, Departmental Heads led by the Municipal Manager, and CEO of the Chris Hani Development Agency.
The main objective being to assess state of service delivery in the district , with a special focus on planned projects , develop a program of action, which includes project hand overs, towards LGE 2026 and concretize integration of Local Economic Development programs implemented in both CHDA and CHDM IPED directorate.
In attendance is the Speaker of Council, Cllr Jongumzi Cengani and Chief Whip, Cllr Nobantu Macingwane.

District Petition Cleansing Session

Chris Hani District Municipality, through the Office of the Speaker, is hosting a two-day District Petition Cleansing Session, led by the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs @Cogta Eastern Cape.
This important initiative focuses on strengthening petition management across the district and beyond. Key stakeholders in attendance include the Speakers’ Offices from CHDM local municipalities, Joe Gqabi and Amathole District Municipalities, the Office of the Premier, Department of Human Settlements, Home Affairs, and the National Moral Regeneration Movement (MRM) Office.
The purpose of the session is to:
✅ Address untraceable and faceless petitions in the provincial petitions register
✅ Evaluate and close longstanding petitions
✅ Conduct Petition Age Analysis
Together, we’re working to ensure accountability, responsiveness, and effective governance at all levels.

Revenue Collection Drive

#RevenueCollectionDrive | CHDM MMC for Budget and Treasury, Cllr Sinomtha Lali-Madubedube is currently leading teams on the ground in Komani distributing water and sanitation statements, whilst about 40 110 statements have been distributed to consumers with email addresses; serving 14-day notice letters of demand for customers in arears with no arrangement in place. Government departments and businesses that still owe the municipality will be disconnected.
