CHRIS HANI DM CRACKS THE WHIP ON NON-PAYING WATER AND SANITATION CUSTOMERS

Chris Hani District Municipality is rigorously implementing its revenue management strategy, amongst others, by embarking on revenue collection drive, targeting ALL houses holds, government departments and preparing the community, through stakeholder engagements, for smart water meter transition.

This week, teams are on the ground, physically distributing water and sanitation statements, whilst about 40 110 statements have been distributed to consumers with email addresses; serving 14-day notice letters of demand for customers in arears with no arrangement in place; and disconnecting government departments and businesses that still owe the municipality.

The district municipality further encourages owing customers to visit our offices across the district to pay, make payment arrangements, or lodge disputes where applicable and also those who do not receive statements to provide their email addresses to facilitate timely receipt.

The district municipality must still maintain water and sanitation infrastructure; continue to provide clean drinking water and source raw water. These operations are only possible if consumers play their part in paying for water and sanitation service they are provided with.

The district municipality will swiftly implement its credit control policy to consumers who ignore letters of demand with no arrangement, by effecting disconnections to the service.

Consumers are further encouraged can contact the municipal Budget and Treasury Offices located in all six local municipalities or contact Ms Nosiphiwo Seti or Ms Nomasango Zonke on 045 8084725, emails nseti@chrishanidm.gov.za ; and nzonke@chrishanidm.gov.za;
