Five villages in Intsika Yethu LM namely; Khuze-lamthole, Qwele, Upper Makhwababa, Mahlubi and Sigangeni are to benefit in 351 ablution structures that will be constructed this month until December 2023. CHDM Deputy Executive Mayor, Cllr Noncedo September is currently handing over the contractor to Intsika Yethu Municipality that will facilitate further processes including community engagement and employment opportunities expected in this project.

As part of Water Tuesdays,

Executive Mayor Cllr Lusanda Sizani, accompanied by Mayor Koni and Councillors form Emalahleni LM, are currently conducting a walk-about in Dordrecht town. The aim being to unblock water and sanitation challenges in the area. This involves site visits to water works, pumpstations and areas marred with sewerage spillages, for immediate intervention.

A dedicated technical team will remain in the area, ensuring meaningful implementation of all proposed interventions.

Key projects that are implemented in Dordrecht include a upgrading of boreholes to augment on existing sources, upgrades to Munnik and Anderson dams – extending capacity and rerouting of sewerage pipe line which was affected by flood disaster earlier this year

Today, the Executive Mayor, Cllr Lusanda Sizani was in Dr AB Xuba Local Municipality, joined by Mayor, Cllr Siyabulela Zangqa, to introduce a contractor for the Qutubeni-Slindini bulk water supply connection from Stholeni Water Treatment Works. This project will take 12 months and will be servicing lower Qebe and Slindini villages.

Inxuba Yethemba Local Municipality as part of Water Tuesdays

Middelburg community in Inxuba Yethemba Local Municipality is engaging with CHDM Portfolio Head for Engineering , Cllr Bongeka Nobuntu on water and sanitation issues. Currently, CHDM is busy in the area refurbishing waste water treatment works to address sewer spillages; added 4 equipped boreholes to increase clean drinking water. Also discussed with community in this meeting is the rollout of smart water meters to address leaks, water consumption and billing challenges.

Water Tuesdays

Water Tuesdays is an effort by Chris Hani District Municipality Executive Mayor Cllr Lusanda Sizani and is currently at Sakhisizwe Local Municipality. The engagement is underway with Sakhisizwe LM Mayor, Her Worship Cllr Boniswa Ponoshe welcoming the CHDM Water and Sanitation team as well as the CHDM Communication team.
Amongst other things that are addressed in the engagement are the following:
1. The state of Water Provision and Sanitation Services in Sakhisizwe
2. The functionality of all water schemes, plants and pumps
3. Wards and areas including villages and towns with running water
4. Wards and areas without running water
5. Remedial actions with clear time frames for areas without running water
6. Responsible team to implement discussed remedial actions
The Executive Mayor has expressed great dedication in ascertaining that water provision and sanitation will thrive in Sakhisizwe.
Councillors are expected to give a detailed report on status of Water and Sanitation in their wards.
The Executive Mayor Cllr Sizani will be leading the site visits.
