HANDOVER AND SWITCHING ON OF HIGHMAST LIGHTS
CHDM Executive Mayor, Cllr Lusanda Sizani, on behalf of the Eastern Cape Premier, alongside the Emalahleni Mayor, Cllr Nontombizanele Koni and her delegation, handed over and switched on the highmast lights at Zingqolweni, Ward 17 and Greyspan, Ward 3 as part of the commemoration of the International Day of Elderly Persons.
These highmast lights were installed by the Eastern Cape Office of the Premier as part of government intervention following a series of brutal murders of the elderly people, a traumatic experience that prevailed in the area. The community members who witnessed this historic event expressed their gratitude that the light has come to the village that used to be known as “The village of death” when the pitch dark falls.
